2024 Milestones
- Cargo: Auto tooling & dies ( 3 flat racks)
- Route: Discharged at Prince Rupert, Canada; translated and trucked to Laredo, TX, USA; a second transloading took place in Laredo before crossing the border to deliver the goods to Toluca, Mexico.
- Total Distance: 6,300 KM (CAN-USA-MEX)
- Cargo: Large-size dozer (OW/OH), CNC machinery (OW/OH)
- Challenge: All cargo required “direct discharge from the vessel,” necessitating pilot escort for local drayage and long-haul transport within British Columbia
- Operations: Coordination with port authorities for direct discharges from vessels, customs exams, drayage with a pilot escort during special time transportation, and long-haul transport with a pilot escort within British Columbia.
- Cargo: Auto tooling/ Dies
- Destination: Manzanillo, Mexico
- Operations: Successful transloading & timely delivery of 11 flat racks/open-top containers to major automakers in Mexico, executed Just-In-Time.
- Cargo: CNC Bending Machine
- Weight: 35.7 tons (net)
- Route: OOG shipment from China to Canada, with direct discharge at the port of Vancouver. The cargo was then transloaded onto a truck trailer & delivered to the consignee in Alberta.
Other Notable Project Cargo Shipments
Aluminum Coil Transportation from China to Canada
Background: A Chinese client shipped aluminum coils to Canada in three 20FT containers. Despite being secured, the coils didn’t meet Canada’s rail transportation standards.
Challenge: CN rejected the containers for rail transport to Toronto, requiring an urgent discharge at Vancouver Port and alternate transport arrangements.
Solutions:
1. Destination Change: Coordinated diversion to Vancouver for discharge.
2. Customs Clearance: Facilitated clearance in Vancouver for regulatory compliance.
3. Transloading: Arranged special lashing and fixing at a transload warehouse to protect the coils during handling.
Outcome: The coils were securely transloaded into dry vans and transported to Toronto, arriving safely and on time.
Green Energy Plant Project Shipment
Background: An Alberta-based company imported equipment from China for a new green energy plant, including furnaces, storage tanks, and other heavy, oversized machinery, with delivery scheduled from Oct 2021 to Feb 2022 (Incoterm: DDU).
Challenges:
– Oversized & Heavy Equipment: Complicated shipping logistics.
– Mixed Shipping Modes: LCL and air shipments were required.
– Diverse Suppliers: Coordinated across multiple Chinese provinces.
– Complex Logistics: Shanghai port was used for both ocean and air shipments.
Solutions:
1. Early Collaboration: Engaged with suppliers and the consignee three months in advance to align timelines.
2. Specification Analysis: Selected optimal container types (open-top, flat rack, etc.) for each shipment.
3. Ongoing Monitoring: Provided real-time updates and evaluated transit options for efficiency.
4. Transloading & Drayage Plans: Organized in Vancouver for final deliveries to Edmonton.
5. Insurance Coverage: Secured comprehensive door-to-door insurance.
Outcome: DTS managed 7*40’FR, 6*40’HC, 1*20GP, 2*LCL, and 1 air shipment with zero insurance claims. The project was completed on time, enabling the plant’s successful establishment.
- Operations: Coordination with port authorities for direct discharges from vessels, customs exams, drayage with a pilot escort during special time transportation, and long-haul transport with a pilot escort within British Columbia.
Auto Tooling and Dies Project
In late 2021, we partnered with an overseas agent to deliver tooling and dies for a Canadian automotive OEM under Incoterm DAP, with shipments set for October 2021 and February 2022.
Challenges: Delays led to 26 containers needing transloading at Port Vancouver amid a severe winter storm in January 2022, impacting delivery timelines.
Solutions:
– Coordinated trucking and transloading to maximize efficiency.
– Combined molds to save space and costs.
– Adjusted schedules based on weather.
– Used team drivers and expedited options for timely delivery.
– Provided regular tracking updates.
Outcomes
– Delivered all containers using 31 trucks, meeting deadlines despite the weather.
– Zero insurance claims, showcasing our commitment to proactive solutions and reliable delivery.
